The Best Band for the Best Party!

announcing Jazz On The Square Series

So, you’re planning a special event. It may be a wedding, a birthday party, a bar mitzvah, a company dinner, a clambake on the beach. You know the time of year; you know the venue. You even have a picture in mind of how great your party is going to be. All you need is the best band

And you’re here – here because you’ve heard us at someone else’s party, or on a friend’s recommendation, or because when you found our site, you liked what you saw. Something original. Something a bit different.

We are different. Calypso Hurricane is the music of five very talented guys who have been together from the get-go. A sixth guy on steel pans if you’re lucky. Why does that matter? Because there’s something intuitive that happens when musicians play together a long time. We’re a band, not a group of hired musicians who happen to show up on the same night. You’d be surprised at how many wedding bands and agencies are really just umbrella groups of independent musicians. Can you imagine going to hear your favorite group and seeing a different singer?  Not us, because that wouldn’t be fun. We are all equally committed to making your party everything you pictured when you first discovered us. We pay attention to what’s happening – whether it’s time for dancing or for something else to be the focus. It’s not the time that matters to us, it’s the timing.

As much as we know music is one of the most important aspects of your party, we admit we’re biased. But music is what wraps around your party, fills in the empty spaces, brings people together. Can’t say that about flowers. Can’t say that about cake. And we do all of that keeping you and your guests the center of attention.

So what music will we play? The music that best expresses what’s happening at your party at any given time. Jazz standards and swing for a cocktail hour. Great rock songs that get everyone up dancing. Classic tunes for older folks. And island music scattered throughout to capture the feel of a great party and make your event different from all of the weddings and celebrations you’ve been to recently. Even if it was a Calypso Hurricane party. Because we guarantee that no two are ever the same. Especially if you or one of your guests decides to sit in and play with us – now try doing that with a d.j. …

Looking for music for your wedding ceremony? We’re on the same page. Choosing and coordinating separate musicians for your ceremony and reception is time consuming and complicated. Mark plays classical guitar for lots of ceremonies prior to the band playing at the reception. Easy.

We’ve got a playlist of songs just to give you an idea of the music you know and love that we’ll cover. And we have three albums of original music so you know that for us, playing music isn’t just another gig. It really is what we do. Our first album “Blow” features the great Livingston Taylor singing with the band. Very cool.

You don’t have to be Carly Simon, John Hockenberry, Joseph Kennedy or Mike Wallace to have us at your party – although you’d be in great company. You just have to be someone who appreciates the difference between a live band and a d.j. Someone who gets that a band of musicians – friends actually – who have played together a long time, is doing something right. Someone who understands that the best band makes for great memories.

Someone looking for something original. Something a bit different.
